MEMO III-F: F.E.C.E.S. — Final Examination Confirming Evacuation Success

F. F.E.C.E.S. — Final Examination Confirming Evacuation Success

F.E.C.E.S.
F — Final
E — Examination
C — Confirming
E — Evacuation
S — Success

Prior to any discharge order being signed, the attending physician must complete the F.E.C.E.S. review, confirming:

  • One (1) documented fecal event — verified by licensed staff who personally observed feces
  • One (1) documented anal release of wind — verified and logged in W.I.N.D. database
  • Fecal Output Log is complete, signed, and dated
  • Flatulence Verification Checklist is complete
  • Patient has been informed they may now leave: "Your feces have arrived. Your wind has passed. You are free to go."
No discharge order shall be signed without completion of the F.E.C.E.S. review. The EHR will not allow a discharge order to be entered if the FOL and W.I.N.D. entries are incomplete. This is a system hard-stop. There are no overrides. Do not call IT. IT did not make this rule. I made this rule. Call me. I will explain it again. Slowly.
