XI. Practice Administrator Quotes — A Coding Reference
Saint Rectory Memorial Hospital System's administrative leadership is, without question, the finest in the region. They are also the source of a remarkable archive of statements that, when read aloud on the unit, produce a silence usually reserved for a dropped tray in a quiet ward.
This memo is a mandatory reference for all staff and department leads. Each quote below is a verbatim administrator statement. Each is real. Each was said with complete sincerity, often in a meeting that could have been an email, which was also said.
A. The Efficiency Quotes
- "We need to see more patients with fewer staff. It's not math, it's mindset." — It is math. The math is the problem. We billed the resulting visits anyway.
- "Why is the ED so crowded? Can't they just tell people to go home?" — They tried. The patients declined. The administrator billed the consultation that produced this advice.
- "I don't see why a 12-hour shift needs a break. I work through lunch." — You work through lunch in a carpeted office. They work through lunch holding a suction canister. Both are billable. Only one is heroic.
- "Turnover is just a number. So is satisfaction. Focus on the number that pays." — The number that pays is, coincidentally, the one we code. Leadership is aligned.
B. The Policy Quotes
- "Effective immediately, all memos must be read. We'll know if they aren't." — See Memo I through X. We know. We counted. You're behind.
- "We're a family here. A family that does mandatory overtime." — No actual family has ever issued a mandatory overtime directive. We noted the distinction. We billed the compliance audit.
- "Please post this on the break room wall. The one with no staff in it." — Posted. Read by zero. Still billable as "staff communication, distributed."
- "We value your feedback. Please submit it through the portal that's been down for three weeks." — Feedback was submitted via interpretive dance in the hallway. Leadership appreciated the visibility.
C. The Budget Quotes
- "We found money for a new logo but not for the broken elevator." — The logo is visible. The elevator is also visible, mostly from the stairs. We billed the rebrand.
- "Can we code the meeting itself? It felt like work." — No. But the policy it produced is now Memo III-A through G. Those code beautifully.
- "I approved the catered lunch for the budget review. We're reviewing the budget by eating it." — The lunch was subtracted from the same budget. Net zero. Morale: briefly positive. Billable: the review.
- "The raise is pending the next cycle." — The next cycle is never. This is not a quote. This is a calendar.
D. The Legendary Quotes (Restricted)
These are restricted to internal leadership training. Sharing externally violates the CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE and, more practically, would end your career. We include them because they explain the memos you have been reading.
"Can we bill for the fart or just the documentation of the fart?" (Both. We do both.)
"I want this on a card grid. Make it look expensive. Use the gold."
"Why is the confidentiality footer so long? Cut it. Nobody reads it." (You are reading it now.)
"Just get it done. I don't care how. I mean, care a little. For compliance."
We hear the things. We implement the things.
We code the outcome. We bill the outcome.
The meeting was free. The mandate is revenue. That is the whole business model, said out loud.
